School History

Returning to Newton after college and a year serving in Desert Storm, Mr. Rangel opened his first school in 1992 in the basement of a chicken hatchery on N. Main. After 10 years at this location, Mr. Rangel purchased a small building on 5th Street. This move proved beneficial and the school grow much more rapidly than expected thus requiring another move. McCall's Shoes on Main Street became for sale and Mr. Rangel purchased and renovated 1/2 of this building. This new location provided better visibility and again the school outgrew its space.UMA then moved to the Chisholm Trail Factory Outlet Mall where UMA was housed in a 10,000 square foot space in the mall. It was a great location just off I-35 with lots of parking and other shopping. After 5 years at the mall, the studio was again outgrowing its space and moved in February 2013 to its current location at the old Starlite Skating Rink, 130 E. 3rd Street in downtown Newton. In addition to martial arts classes, you can now book a skating party too!
